„The Secret Circle” tells the story of thirteen witches that set up a controversy coven called „the secret circle”. The action of the fiction series is created by L. J. Smith is set in New Salem, New York and begins with the arrival into town of Cassie Blake, a sixteen-year old teenager and her mother Alexandra. The two move to New Salem from Chicago to take care of Cassie’s grandmother and Alexandra’s mother Jane who is sick.

Cassie is enrolled into the local high school. Soon after their arrival, Cassie discovers she possesses dark magic; however she is not sure how she can use it or what power it holds. At the same time, Cassie comes across a strange group of high school girls that intrigues her: the girls are mysterious, like they hold a secret of some sort, girls that prove to be witches themselves. Thus the mystery that surrounds them like an aura. She joins the group and becomes a member of “The Secret Circle”.

After Cassie joins the circle the other members of the coven discover that having Cassie in their circle their spells are more powerful than they were before.

Becoming more and more reckless in their actions of magic, the witches are overwhelmed by their new powers, and begin to amend all the things wrong in their lives – but like everything else in life – things come with a price.

Diana Meadeis Cassie’s best friend, a high school colleague and a Circle member. She is also the coven leader and has pure intentions, believes magic should only be used for good, unlike her first cousin Faye.
