The „Penguins of Madagascar” is a successfull animation TV show featuring the penguincharacters which appeared as secondary characters in the famous „Madagascar”animated films produced by DreamWorks Animation (in 2005 and 2008).

The show stars nine of the characters which appeared in the film. The series follows the adventures of the military-skilled penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico and their adventures in the Zoo where they are accomodated. Also appearing on the show are the very popular characters King Julien, Maurice and Mort the lemurs; and the chimpanzees Mason and Phil.New characters have also been included: Marlene the otter and Alice, the zookeeper.

There is a strong coherence of the storyline’s coherence to the Madagascar films, especially through the characters. Each episode is a different adventure of Skipper (the mastermind behind all operations), Kowalski, Rico, and Private. They engage in paramilitary-like missions to protect their home in the Central Park Zoo, usually after a thorough plan is being set up. Throughout their missions, the penguins come across the narcissistic, self-glorified lemur King Julien XIII, who, more often than not complicates the situation.

Maurice is one of King Julien’s subjects and his servant. Mort is an nevrotic, mouse lemur who sincerely adores King Julien, even if his royal highness treats him with contempt.
