„Californication” is a detailed description of the complications and complexity human relationships to other people and to themselves might bring up. Hank Moody (beautifully played by David Duchovny) is a troubled writer,caught at a difficult moment in his personal life and professional carrier. He finds himself in a prolonged writer’s block, therefore he decides to move to Los Angeles, California in search of inspiration or some sort of way out of his crisis. This move only leads to further complications in his relationship with longtime girlfriend Karen and teenage daughter Becca.

Hank has a whole lot of personal demons to face. He constantly deals with the consequences of his inability to say “no” to drugs, sex and alcohol.In Hank’s own words: „Rehab is for quitters”. All these joggling acts performed while trying to show his family that he can be a responsible, caring father to Becca and monogamous partner to Karen.

David Duchovny portrays a witty, self-loathing, pessimistic and bitter (due to his own realization of where his life is at) character. Hank Moody is a series of contradictions: an esteemed writer and a dysfunctional person, vulnerable and untouchable, desolate and willing to try again, self-conscious and self-destructive.

The show has been nominated and won several awards, including one Emmy Award (nominated for two others) and one Golden Globe Award (nominated for three others).
